After years of doing research, we have made the decision to start our transition to electronic health records.
The decision was made at the end of 2009. Since then we have been working on all the information that goes on behind the scenes.
If you've tried to make an appointment with Dr. Mackey - you know that he's been busy working on our templates and the clinical data that the physicians will use to document your child's visit.
For the past couple of months everyone on our staff has been entering patients into the new system. We're going as fast as we can - but we don't have everyone in yet. We may still need to ask you for information when you call for an appointment. The biggest change you'll notice is - no more chart numbers. When you call, we will ask for your child's date of birth.
For the past month we have started entering immunization information, allergy and medication history. We are also scanning important medical information, consents, and waivers into the new electronic chart.
Tomorrow we start our training in the "practice management" program. That is... making appointments and doing billing. The follow week we go "live" with it. So starting next week - all appointments will be in the new system.
Keep checking back for information about our journey.

H1N1 Vaccine Recall - Non-Safety Related Recall
You have no doubt heard on the news about the recall for some doses of H1N1 vaccine for children 6 months to 35 months. These doses were from four different lot numbers.
California received doses from only one of the four lot numbers that are being recalled.
Our office did NOT receive any doses from the recalled lot numbers.
We are still out of stock of the H1N1 vaccine - but will update the blog if we receive any new information.

We are out of our small supply of H1N1 vaccines
As Friday dawns, we will no longer be able to administer H1N1 vaccines as our short supply has been snapped up.
The LATimes this am noted that county health departments have some H1N1 vaccines, and are administering it.
We do have the "baby" seasonal flu vaccines for children aged 6 months to 3 years, and the seasonal flu vaccine for 3 years and older in our office, so stop by, or ask your doctor at your visits over the next couple of weeks about the vaccine.

H1N1 injectable vaccine arrival
Today we received a few doses (100) of the H1N1 injectable vaccine for children and young adults 4 years of age and older. If you are in the office this next couple of days, inquire about its availability. This will be available for those who need the FIRST dose only.
We do have plenty of seasonal flu (injectable) vaccine still available for those aged 3 years and older.

H1N1 Appointment Scheduling - Suspended
We have had to stop scheduling appointments for the H1N1 vaccine.
We will begin again as soon as we receive notification of our next shipment.
Thank you to everyone for your patience and cooperation during this unusual time.
Since Saturday - we have scheduled over 350 appointments through e-mail and the several hundred over the phone.
If you already have an appointment scheduled for the vaccine only - your dose has been "reserved".
We are doing everything we can to balance the vaccines that we receive with the need for all of our patients to receive one.
Please keep your eye on this blog - or subscribe to it for the latest information.

H1N1 Vaccine Shipment Update
Important Information for Children 3 to 4 years of age.
We received our shipment of H1n1 injectable vaccine today. (800 doses)
We expected to receive the H1N1 injectable vaccine for children over the age of 3 (which is manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur - the company from which we order our seasonal vaccines).
We received the H1N1 injectable vaccine for children over the age of 4 (which is manufactured by Novartis)
So, at this time we have NO H1N1 vaccine for children that are 3 to 4 years old. We do not know when we will receive vaccine for this important age group, but have to assume that we will.
We will update this blog as soon as we have any new information about shipments of vaccine for children ages 3 to 4.
Supply update coming tomorrow.

H1N1 Injectable Vaccine - 3 years and older
AGAIN...
Please Do Not Call Our Office
Until you read this entire newsletter.
We have been notified that sometime next week we will be receiving two shipments totaling 800 doses of the injectable H1N1 influenza vaccine for children 3 years and older.
We ordered over 4000 doses. This will NOT be our only shipment.
We will begin scheduling appointments for Thursday, November 12th, (because we do not know exactly when the shipment will arrive). Please call after 10:00 to schedule your appointment. The last time we sent out this enews letter we had so many calls we could not schedule appointments for our sick children.
Something new... no need to wait on hold.
You may also send us an email to schedule your appointment. Send your appointment request to pamedicine@yahoo.com (you can click on the address, or just type it into "send" in your email) in the subject line please type H1N1 and your chart number.
In the body of the email please tell us the name and age of the child or children that you would like to bring in, let us know when you would like to come in - give us the day, date and the time you would like to have an appointment.
Your appointment will be scheduled and we will email you back a confirmation.
We will post an update to this blog if we can schedule appointments before that date.
Children under the age of 10 need to receive 2 doses - 30 days apart (if the supply permits). We can not "save" your child's second dose because it is important that we vaccinate as many children as possible with their first dose so that they receive "some" protection.
Each day we will schedule as many appointments as possible without compromising the safety of our patients and our staff.

The Shipment Arrived
We have received the shipment of 500 doses of the H1N1 injectable vaccine for children 6 months to 3 years.
If you already scheduled an appointment to come in for the vaccine next week, please do not call to move it up. Your vaccine has been reserved (your child's name is on the box).
Please remember this vaccine is for children who have reached age 6 months but have not turned 3 yet. So, if they have already had their 3rd birthday, they need to wait for the other injectable vaccine.
We still have no idea when the injectable vaccine will arrive for everyone 3 years and older. We will update this blog as soon as we receive notification.
We still have a good supply of the seasonal vaccine for children 6 months to 3 years. Remember this injectable seasonal flu vaccine can be given at the same time as the injectable H1N1 flu vaccine.
We also still have a good supply of the seasonal FluMist nasal spray. This for healthy children 2 years and over.

No Change as of 10.20.09
We have not received any additional shipments of either seasonal or H1N1 flu vaccine.
The only vaccine we currently have available is the seasonal FluMist nasal spray.
While all the media attention is on the H1N1 flu - it is still important to protect your children against the seasonal flu. If your children have not received the seasonal vaccine yet and are over 2 years old, with no underlying health issues - call our office as soon as possible to schedule an appointment for the FluMist nasal spray.
We truly appreciate your cooperation by continuing to check this blog. Our phones and our front office staff have been overwhelmed with calls asking about the seasonal and H1N1 vaccines and their availability. This blog is your best source for information. We promise that as soon as we receive shipments of flu vaccine - the information will be posted here and we will send out an email.

Flu Vaccine Update and Information
Our supply of flu vaccine continues to change daily, so thank you for your patience.
As of today we only have doses for the Flu Mist - seasonal flu nasal spray vaccine (which is for children WITHOUT asthma who are 2 years old or older)
If you already have an appointment for the H1N1 nasal spray - your dose has been reserved.
As of today - we have not received any additional shipments of the seasonal flu vaccine.
Also, we have not received a shipment of the H1N1 injectable vaccine. Although it is expected at any time.
We understand your frustration and concerns. We share them. We ordered thousands of doses in February of this year expecting to receive the shipment in September. We have NO CONTROL over the timing of the shipments. We are all at the mercy of the manufacturer.
Please continue to check this blog for the most current information.
There is a lot of information in the media these days about the flu. The federal government has established a web site to keep you informed. http://www.flu.gov/myths/index.html

Save Time when coming in for your Flu Vaccine
It has been a challenge to keep our flu vaccine in stock and meet the needs of our patients. The manufacturer sends us small amounts of the thousands of doses of flu vaccine that we pre-ordered last February.
Please make sure to check our blog or contact our office for vaccine supply status.
When you arrive, you may find that the office is very busy. This is because we are not only seeing our sick children but trying to accomodate those needing the flu vaccine.
To save some time when you come in for your flu vaccine - please consider completing one of our Screening Questionnaire forms, print it out and bring it with you.
Please complete the questionnaire for the vaccine that you wish to receive -
the Intranasal vaccination or Injectible vaccination.

When you arrive, you may find that the office is very busy. This is because we are not only seeing our sick children but trying to accomodate those needing the flu vaccine.
To save some time when you come in for your flu vaccine - please consider completing one of our Screening Questionnaire forms, print it out and bring it with you.
